KSL Group is from small sugar producer which can produce sugar 600 kilogram per day to a listed company. Presently, the Company operates and owns 5 sugar factories in Thailand and 2 in Lao and Cambodia.

In 1945, Mr. Chuan Chinthammit along with two co-founding families Tokaranyaset and Rojanasthien jointly founded a sugar factory named Kwang Soon Lee Co., Ltd. located on Rama 1 Road, Bangkok. The name “Kwang Soon Lee” is derived from the middle names of the stores owned by the three founders at that time.

In 1952, the factory was moved from its original site to Petchkaserm Road, Thonburi province and was renamed Thonburi Sugar Factory Co., Ltd. (Plant1 – Kwang Soon Lee). As the sugar business flourished and a new sugar factory, Ang Vien Industry Co., Ltd., was set up in Baan Bung district, Chonburi province. It was the first sugar factory that adopted modern technology to produce granulated sugar directly from fresh sugarcane juice. The company continued to expand production capacity by building many more sugar factories.

There was a significant change in 1974 when the shareholders embarked upon a structural reorganization and appointed Mrs. Nantha Chinthammit and Mr. Chavalit Chinthammit as a chairperson and a managing director, respectively. The head office was located at Siam Square, Rama1 Road, Bangkok. The company still retained ownership of 3 sugar factories: New Krung Thai Sugar Factory Co., Ltd., New Kwang Soon Lee Sugar Factory Co., Ltd., Tamaka Sugar Industry Co., Ltd.

In 1976, a new sugar factory, named Khon Kaen Sugar Industry Co., Ltd. was established in Namphong district, Khon Kaen province.

In 1990, all sugar companies were merged under one management group named “KSL Group” in honor of the company’s co-founders and original company name Kwang Soon Lee. For business expansion, the head office was moved to KSL Tower, Sri Ayudhaya Road, ThanonPhayathai sub district, Rajthevi district, Bangkok in 1994.

In 2003, a renewable power plant, Khon Kaen Sugar Power Plant Co., Ltd. was established in Namphong district, Khon Kaen province, which can produce electricity and steam by using bagasses as raw material. In 2004, Khon Kaen Alcohol Co., Ltd. was established in Namphong district, Khon Kaen province, which can produce alcohol (ethanol) form molasses, sugarcane, and others materials.

The management team at KSL Group foresaw a continuous growth in the demand for sugar and the potential growth in related by-product businesses such as ethanol and energy generation and decided to transform the company from a private company limited into a public company limited (Khon Kaen Sugar Industry Public Company Limited-KSL). KSL is the first Thai sugar manufacturer to be registered at the Stock Exchange of Thailand on March 7, 2005 under the Food and Beverage category, using "KSL” as a stock symbol.

In 2007, the company constructed a new factory and relocated operation of its New Krung Thai Sugar Factory to BoPloy district, Kanchanaburi province. The new factory was built under the Bio-Refinery Complex concept where production factories for sugar and related by-products like ethanol, electricity, and organic fertilizer were built on the same premise to create a complete production cycle that not only maximized efficiency but also minimized production cost and waste.

In 2011, the company invested in a sugar factory with crushing capacity 18,000 tons of cane/day and a renewable power plant that can generate 40 Megawatt of electricity in Loei province.

In 2012, the company expanded the renewable power plant and sugar factory in Namphong district, Khon Kaen province. Electricity power plant production capacity was expanded from 30 Megawatt to 65 Megawatt and sugar crushing capacity was increased to 8,000 tons of cane sugar/day.

On October 7, 2015, Khon Kaen Sugar Industry PCL hosted its 70th Anniversary Celebration at the Grand Hall, 2nd FL, Plaza Athenee Bangkok, a Royal Meridien Hotel. The Minister of Industry, Dr. Atchaka Sibunruang, attended the event as the Honorable Chair. Mr. Manu Leopairote, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Mr. Chamroon Chinthammit, the Chief Executive Officer & President, gave a welcoming speech and presented KSL group’s vision and future business goals to valued business partners and customers.
Khon Kaen Sugar Industry PCL and companies in KSL Group with invited guests made charitable donation to Ramathibodi Foundation in order to build the Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute. The total of 13,173,668 THB was raised for this charity.

The Kingdom of Thailand is the host of Congress of the 29th International Society of Sugar Cane Technologists (2016) during 2nd - 11th December 2016 at Chiang Mai International Convention and Exhibition Center to demonstrate new techniques and technologies for planting sugar cane and producing sugar, including innovative approach for utilization in production processes.
Congress of the 29th International Society of Sugar Cane Technologists was held to interact and exchange knowledge between the industries and further demonstrates the innovative technology related to sugar cane and sugar related products from various countries across the world. With concept of “Sufficient and Sustainable Agri-Sugar Cane from Small Farmers to Global Exporters”, there were representatives from’ government, private sectors and academic institutions of more than 2,000 delegates from 80 countries worldwide. On 3 December 2016, Khon Kaen Sugar Industry Public Company Limited (Nam Pong location) welcomed groups of more than 121 participants (Pre-Congress Tour) consists of business personals from private sector of how to implement innovative processes in-related to natural energy.

Khon Kaen Sugar Industry PLC organized KSL Virtual Run 2019 to raise fund for donation to Ramathibodi Foundation for medical equipment and appliances and to promote health and physical exercise of the executives and the staff so that the personnel have good health that benefits their work and their living quality.
On 17 September 2019, the closing event of the KSL Virtual Run 2019 was held at KSL Tower. The representative of Ramathibodi Foundation, Assistant Professor Thongchai Pongmakapat, M.D., the executive director and treasurer of the Foundation, attended the event and received the donation from Mr. Chamroon Chinthammit, CEO & President of Khon Kaen Sugar Industry PLC.

During the year 2020, the company started to expand distribution channel of white sugar and refined sugar sale through modern trade channel starting at Marko Department store in order to introduce and sale products to retailed customers.
